... diesel, natural gas or petrol

UPS Systems have been supplying generators since 1993, and offer the UK's widest range of standby power generators from small portable units to super-powerful 2MVA gen-sets.

UPS Systems are a totally independent supplier of standby power products from all of the major Generator suppliers.

We can supply generators from all of the major manufacturers so whether you're looking for FG Wilson, SDMO, Scania, Iveco, Man, Deutz, Volvo, Lombardini, Mitsubishi, Perkins or John Deere . . . we can help as we maintain an up-to-the-minute database of all of the latest products from ALL of the major suppliers.

2kW Diesel GeneratorSmall portable diesel generators range from about 1kVA to 10kVA, while larger industrial units can range from 8kVA to 30kVA and above for small offices, and up to 2MVA for large office complexes, data centres and manufacturing plants.

Where large battery banks are to be avoided because of size, cost or weight, or where runtimes of more than half a day are required, a generator is usually your answer.

Every type of generator

We can provide your total standby power solution from matched UPS and generators (either for purchase, lease, hire or on standby), to switchgear and AMF panels, including fuel tanks and re-fuelling services.

We supply generators of all sizes. Generators can be matched to UPS or multiple generators can be synchronised to enable their outputs to be connected; this is necessary where you require full standby power support, even during generator maintenance or testing

Our services department will also deliver a range of maintenance services including annual servicing contracts, health checks, load bank testing, repair services and remote monitoring of your gen-set.

Many people miscalculate when trying to size the generator power they require. This can be a daunting process and, without expert knowledge, can create an expensive problem. Factors such as surge current, synchronisation, harmonics, operating temperature and future capacity need to be considered.

Generator fuels

UPS Systems installing a diesel generator at Inter Ads in Central LondonA wide choice of fuel is available. Diesel is the usual choice, for its low flammability, low cost and stability over time. Natural gas is a regularly used alternative where available, although the engine is de-rated to accommodate the lower calorific value of gas over petrol or diesel.

Where it's not possible to situate an oil tank nearby, nor use natural gas, then bottled gas is an alternative. Petrol is rarely used, except in very small generators, owing to its volatile nature and tendency to degrade when stored. Aviation fuel can be used for gas turbine powered generators.

Generator Emissions

All internal combustion engines produce carbon monoxide (CO) emissions and noise. Noise can be silenced to an acceptable level for use outdoors in residential areas, or even for use in an office environment on some small sizes (<10kVA), but in both cases exhausts must be vented outside. This is not always possible in high-rise offices, which is why Fuel Cell systems are emerging as a viable alternative in these situations.
