South West Water provides drinking water and waste water services throughout Cornwall and Devon as well as some areas of Dorset and Somerset. Since 2014, UPS Systems plc have supplied them with a number of UPS units for use in their panels to replace legacy equipment. Standby power is also necessary to provide backup to South West Water’s aeration control system which is a vital part of the water treatment process.

The Challenge

South West Water asked UPS Systems plc to provide them with a new UPS after their existing unit in the aeration control system failed. Without a working UPS, the aeration process would not be able to take place in the event of a power failure. This could have a serious effect on the cleanliness of the water and therefore a replacement UPS needed to be installed as a matter of urgency.
